AOI: Power structure in government (what is the extent of power, and who really has control)
Questions:
What is government?
What is the role of government v. what should it be?
What is the extent of power?
When is it too much?
How does a government control individualism?
Is there really privacy?
How does power corrupt?
Can a bad gov. start out with good intentions?
Is it real power?
Do people really need to be controlled?
Where does the power come from?
Do the ends justify the means?
Primary Sources: I think I am going to use The Giver (Lois Lowry) and 1984 (George Orwell)
Aside from direct influence of government... Government may have an affect on societal views and opinions. Can you determine if government is a macro or micro influence; is it more present in individual everyday life or the broad interactions of a population?
ReplyDeleteTaking a little bit of a political science approach to this I think it would be really interesting if you looked up manifest and latent power. They are two very different types of power (although it can be argued that the only real form is latent) that play a role in gov't etc.
ReplyDeleteAnother question to add to your list is "what makes the power legitimate?"
also I just wanted to say that this is an idea that really interests me and something I have trying to find an answer to myself since last year so I am very interested to see where you take this.
